Week 9 - Victory

Trick or Treat

The word of the day is VICTORY.

Did you know ....
Nike was the ancient Greek goddess of Victory? Her name? Victoria!
A Nike costume would have been great for Halloween.
It may be too late to dress up as the ancient Greek goddess of Victory
but it is never too late to clothe yourself in Victory!

Victory, Victory, is our cry......

V - I - C - T - O - R - Y

To the victor goes the spoils
Victory at all cost
The last man standing is the victor
Victory Lane
Victory Lap
Victory from the jaws of defeat
No joy in Mudville tonight...
Victory from within
Victory is sweet
The sweet taste of Victory

From "Chariots of Fire"
Harold M. Abrahams:..... If I can't win, I won't run!
Sybil Gordon
:..................If you don't run, you can't win.

Rocky! Rocky! Rocky!

“The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place. And I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there if you let it. You, me or nobody is going to hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you can hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward.” ~ Rocky Balboa

I AM William Wallace" ~ Braveheart

"Aye, fight and you may die.
Run, and you'll live. At least awhile.
And dying in beds, many years from now,
would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that...
for one chance...just ONE CHANCE
to come back here to tell our enemy that they may take our lives,
but they will never take............OUR FREEDOM!!!"

There is something deep in the soul of man that desires victory.
Every person must define what level of accomplishment will satisfy this
hunger for victory.

How do we define victory? Conquest over an enemy?
Achieving your goal? Surviving? Not losing?

Just a few questions to help you with this thought....
1.  If you win, did someone lose?
2.  What price did you pay for Victory?
3.  What price are you willing to pay for Victory?
4.  Can you have Victory without a clearly defined objective?
5.  Will there always be obstacles in life to overcome?
6.  Do you have what it takes to be Victorious? (yes, you do.... trust me!)
7.  Can you play by the rules and achieve Victory?
8.  Can you quit and still taste Victory?
9.  Does past Victory guarantee future Victory?
10. Can you lose and still be Victorious?
11.  Can you lose a battle and still gain Victory in the war?

STOP!

VICTORY.

What was the first thought that entered your mind?

The first thought that entered my mind, now and when I first started pondering Victory, is Resurrection.

Resurrection is the ultimate Victory.
Resurrection - Zoe (life) Victorious over death!

Your life of Victory begins with resurrection.
Your life of Victory begins with a relationship with your Heavenly Father....
......this is resurrection.....this is Victory!

Nothing can separate you from the love of the Father.....this is forever Victory!

I love you.

Dad

What does victory mean? The word victory can have many meanings. It means to defeat an enemy or opponent, success in a struggle against difficulties or an obstacle, or the state of having triumphed. Although the common meaning of victory is to win, you can also be victorious if you lose. To me and many other people, the word victory stands for the ability to come through a challenge winning or losing. Understanding the word victory gives me a greater appreciation for the word.

You can find victory in everyone, in a sport, or in everyday life. Micheal Phelps, a known worldwide Olympic swimmer, defeated many opponents to reach the top of the swimming world. His hard work and persistence show his loyalty and love for the sport. His great feat of winning sixteen medals at the Olympics gives other swimmers someone to look up to. His actions and attitudes towards striving to win are portrayed in his victory. Although he was victorious in overcoming an attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder diagnosed at age six. His ability to work through this hard time gives me a new outlook on his determination. Because Micheal Phelp’s was able to overcome an attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder he was able to achieve victory in winning sixteen medals in one Olympic game.

Although defeating an opponent is a way to reach victory, victory can also be found in overcoming an obstacle. F.D.R., a great American President, overcame an obstacle like I had experienced. Roosevelt had polio, a disease that can paralyze the victim leaving them without hope. Because of F.D.R., many people with a similar disease were encouraged by his confidence and ability to overcome his hardship. Because he influenced the American people and gave them hope, Congress put his face on the dime. Not only did F.D.R. overcome an obstacle, he helped others gain hope again by providing the Georgia Warm Springs Foundation to provide therapy to people with polio. His ability to overcome an obstacle and help others overcome theirs, shows his true personal victory. Like Franklin D. Roosevelt, I overcame an obstacle that stood in the way of my victory. In gymnastics, I couldn’t perform a skill which was needed to execute the event. After much hard work and persistence, I overcame this obstacle that stood in the way of something I love to do. Although I didn’t win, I overcame a fear or an obstacle despite losing. Does this mean I wasn’t victorious? Even though I lost, I got over my obstacle which shows hard work to reach my goal. F.D.R. and I show an important definition of victory, overcoming an obstacle or barrier.

Overcoming a barrier and defeating an opponent are definitions of victory, but influencing people and triumphing from it is also a definition of victory. Adolf Hitler, a tyrant in German history, influenced many people in believing that Jews were the answer to their problems. His negative effect, although influential, was not victorious because it was used in a negative way. He did triumph in getting everyone to believe him, but he was not victorious because he didn’t improve the lives of others. Jesus on the other hand influenced many people for the better. His kind and bright spirit gave people joy that had a positive effect on them. Although he died on the cross, his victorious influence lives on till this day in a positive way. His triumph shows victory in caring and showing kindness to others. To be truly victorious, I believe that influencing people in a positive way is a true definition of victory.

There are many meanings of the word victory. Knowing that victory means defeating an opponent, overcoming an obstacle, and influencing people and triumphing from it gives me a new perspective of the word. To me, victory means showing greatness in your actions or through the way you talk to and understand people. Victory has many definitions. What does it mean to you?
