Yogi Berra and his friend were driving together:"Yogi", his friend said,"I think we are lost.""I know", Yogi replied,"But we are making great time!"
Pretty funny, but all too often true.
Once upon a 'Word of the Day' I wrote of wisdom, understanding, and knowledge.Woven in and around and through the path to knowledge is instruction and correction.
Many things in life do not require us to hit the center of the target. In fact, most things in life have a built in fudge factor accounting for our imperfections. You can score a 90% on many tests and receive an 'A' on your report card. You can be off by a foot when you shoot the basketball and by chancebank it in. Cars are only 6 feet wide but we make the road 10 feet widebetween the lines. Why? To allow us time to make corrections.
There are several ways to make corrections:slam on the brakes;look both ways;make a U-Turn, (that's a 180 degree turn);take a hard right;take a hard left;downshift;put it in high gear;set the cruise control;steady as she goes;just slow down;or, speed up;swerve;duck;spin;smile;laugh it off;shake it off;shake it up;get up;keep moving forward;pause, and think about it;take it under advisement;postpone your decision;just say no;shake hands and come out fighting;beat your swords into plowshares;cry,laugh;fight,surrender.'Just Win Baby'
If my aim is off just a tad, it usually won't have an immediate impact. But, if I am off a smallfraction from here to the moon it will land me in another galaxy! Most correctionsrequire only a nudge, a love tap. A small correction and you could be in Italy inthree months. Without correction you're waiting tables and hoping for better tips. I likeItaly myself.
The question is "Father, what is your will for my life. Where should I be now. And where should I be heading?" His word is a Lamp to our feet, and a Light to our path. He will show us where we are standing, and he will reveal to us where to go. And along the path, he will correct us. He will speak to us directly, if we wait and are quiet. He uses the small victories in our lives to encourage us. He uses failures to help us to look up. He uses friends. He uses enemies. He uses strangers. He uses family.
He is gentle in his correction. He is a still small voice.Everything that he does is meant for your good.Keep your eyes on his prize.
